Recently I had a fruitful exchange of thoughts with Lisa. She writes her personal experience about personal development, lifestyle and living your dream life on her blog Lisa Tanner Writing.
She writes about management tips, business ideas and strategies for engaging kids while at work. She began blogging in 2013 as a hobby. In 2016 she went on a mission to make an income online using her own research
She has written an eBook to help you make time for writing and growing your business.
Maxim: Tell us about your blog. What made you start writing about Self Improvement?
I’m a homeschooling mom of nine who decided to start a freelance writing business. Without taking steps to improve myself, this would be an impossible feat. I started blogging to help other busy moms tame the chaos and find time for a life changing business.
I share time management tips, strategies for engaging your kids while you work, business ideas and tips, and more.
Maxim: Tell us about your personal journey in self improvement. Give us some examples of how you improve yourself regularly.
My journey in self-improvement began out of a season of self-neglect. I was pouring myself into my growing family, my growing business, and everything else around me. I wound up burned out and miserable. So, I started cutting back, lowering my expectations, and taking time to enjoy the small moments of life.
Now, self improvement includes taking time to read on a regular basis. And going on walks. I make sure to eat better and drink lots of water. I’m learning that if I don’t take care of me, I can’t take care of those around me.
And, I’ve learned to make small changes to bring more joy into my life. We play board games regularly, and have family movie nights with lots of popcorn and fun. During these times, I don’t stress about the mess and just settle back to enjoy a great evening with my family. Creating a life that I don’t want to escape from has been a priority on this journey.
Maxim: Among all the articles you have written, which one is your favorite? Why?
My favorite one is currently Mompreneur Inspiration: How Freelance Writing Changed My Life.
It’s a look at how making the decision to start a freelance writing business back in 2015 has completely changed my family’s life. We’re now out of debt, on deputation for a ministry that we love, and are just in a better place overall.
Maxim: Self improvement has various aspects. However, if you had to give only one single piece of advice to your readers, what would it be?
You have to make your self improvement a priority.
Maxim: What advice would you give to a young person just starting his/her journey of self improvement?
You have to believe in yourself. Your voice matters. You have an important outlook and perspective to share with the world. So ignore the haters – because when you start living a life that’s no longer “normal” there will be haters. Ignore them and do what’s best for you and your family.
Maxim: If you had a time machine that sent you 10 years back in time, what self improvement advice would you give yourself?
You don’t have to know all of the answers. Just take one little step. Then take another one. The end result will become clearer only through action, so don’t get caught up in the research. Just do something.
Maxim: How has your blogging and writing influenced and transformed you? Do you think you have changed as a person since you started blogging?
I started blogging as a hobby back in 2013. It was pretty much an online diary that kept friends and family up to date on our crazy life.
After launching my freelance writing business, I started my second blog in 2015.
Both are still going, and blogging really has transformed me. It’s therapeutic to write, and I enjoy connecting with other people I never would have met without the blog. I’ve met other parents who have kids with the same rare disorder my oldest son has, and other large family homeschooling moms, and other freelance writers. So many amazing people, some who have become friends, and I never would have met them without having a blog.
Maxim: What makes you happiest as a blogger?
I love it when my readers write and let me know that my blog helped them in some way. Knowing that my words made a difference is such an amazing feeling. I’m so thankful for my readers.
Maxim: Who are the other self improvement bloggers that you’re a fan of?
I really like reading Brandi’s work on Chicken Scratch Diaries, Yolanda’s posts on Put the Kettle On, and Terryn at Just a Simple Home.
Maxim: Where can the readers contact you?
People can reach me on my email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Maxim: Thanks a lot, Lisa. It was wonderful knowing your thoughts. All the best on your future as a blogger and an author.
